Don't Fire Illegals

According to a November 28, 2006 article in the Washington Times, firing illegal immigrants is discriminatory:
A Mississippi Democrat in line to become chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has warned the nation's largest uniform supplier it faces criminal charges if it follows a White House proposal to recheck workers with mismatched Social Security numbers and fire those who cannot resolve the discrepancy in 60 days.

Rep. Bennie Thompson said in a letter to Cintas Corp. it could be charged with "illegal activities in violation of state and federal law" if any of its 32,000 employees are terminated because they gave incorrect Social Security numbers to be hired.

"I am deeply troubled by Cintas' recent policy change regarding the Social Security Administration's 'no match' letters," Mr. Thompson said in the Nov. 2 letter. "It is my understanding that hundreds of Cintas' immigrant workers have received these letters. I am extremely concerned about any potentially discriminatory actions targeting this community."...
Complying with immigration laws and regulations is discrimination?

Leave it to the Dems to destroy everything SO many people have wanted- and demanded, for the past 6 yrs.

I wonder what the President will say about this...

America: Land of no laws.

I don't expect anything sincere of a protest nature from Bush on this issue -- I could, of course, be wrong, but given his own stance on illegal immigration, um, well...

As I expressed previously, I thought the only reason he signed the border fence bill to begin with was to help Congressional Republicans in the then-coming election.

The Dems and GOP are criminally negligent when it comes to executing one of the primary functions of the Federal government: Protecting us from foreign hostiles. The American people should be able to expect the government to protect their country's sovereignity.

But going out of his way to protect illegals? That is downright treasonous.

After all, Cintas is merely following the law, and if any discrepencies are honest mistakes, they would be quickly resolved. That is not discrimination. Neither is firing someone who shouldn't have been there in the first place.

the laws regarding legal and illegal aliens are convoluted - out hands are tied in some areas.

more than half our company's employees are hispanic - i get sick of it when every quarter we get a list of 20 or so mismatched ssn's and names and the time it takes to straighten it out - out of those, perhaps three or four are shady and we go to the employee and tell them to straighten it out within two weeks.

when they bring back their "corrected" paperwork, we remind them that if it proves to be in error, we will call every national entity involved. they usually quit! guess if someone needed a new identity, they could always get one.

Actually, Ducky, the number of illegals committing murder, DUI, sex crimes, ect. is quite high.

That's not saying that American citizens are as pure as the driven snow, but arguably a large number of these crimes should have never had the opportunity to be committed in the first place.

Not only that, your implication that I hang around illegal activities isn't amusing. I have received 3 parking tickets and 1 speeding ticket in my entire life, not exactly swimming in crystals am I? Must have touched a nerve.

Storm,
being here illegally should be cause enough for deportation.

The liberals just won't accept that. For all of their talk about caring for humanity, they are caring only when they personally don't have to deal with the impact of illegals.

As the numbers of illegals continue to increase, even those in their ivory towers will be impacted--car accidents, taxes to support the various programs in the schools for the progeny of illegals, health care issues, crime, gang warfare, etc. But by the time the ivory-tower dwellers are affected, it will be too late.

Already, entire sections of cities and suburbs are no-go zones after dark because of roving illegals and teen gangs. The situation is going to deteriorate and spread even further.

GWB has always been soft on immigration; in fact, that was his position while governor of Texas.

I agree with your assessment as to why he signed the border fence bill. It's a few scant miles of barrier and, IMO, will not be funded. The deluge from across the border will continue unabated. Add to that the North American Union, and what do we have? Surrender of borders and surrender of national sovereignty.

Storm,
What we ought to be doing is to causing government to stop giving any support to illegals and their families. No more welfare, no housing, and no free education.

As my 90-year-old aunt found out a few weeks ago, the ER at the local hospital has become a free-medical-care-for-everything-from-pneumonia-to-pregnancy-to-the-common-cold facility. And the illegals are there in droves. Fortunately, her illness was not immediately life-threatening, so she was none the worse for wear after a 12-hour wait.

The convoluted laws are a huge part of the problem. Those laws should be simplified so that they can be enforced.

Just watch the mushrooming of "impromptu" day-laborer centers--such as parking lots.

Illegals know that the local police will not hassle them. At the same time, anyone else "loitering" gets rousted.

Yes, two long years. And years to undo the damage, if the damage can indeed be undone.

not understand why Hell has broken out around them! As they are murdered by drug smuggling, illegal immigrants, in their rustbucket cars and no insurance or drivers liscense, as they stand in shock over the body of their child raped and murdered by a "misunderstood" sex offender, as their neighborhoods are trashed by uncaring illegals...

Before you came along to comment here at this blog, I had a posting about the joy of living in a suburb inundated by illegals. I'll try to find that posting and post the link here.

HERE is what I was looking for:

"In northern Virginia, it is more than just five or six [people] in one house. Think about 19 people in an 1000 sq ft rambler with one kitchen and one bathroom. Wall to wall beds. That was not in my neighborhood, but in my development.

"We original neighbors in my neighborhood believe the house across the street is now a 'safe house' for illegals. We watch them come and go - many, many people. They have constructed a building in the back yard - which the county supervisor inspected and stated that, in his judgement, it was for living quarters, because of the doors, insulation, etc.

"Those people moved in on a Saturday. Tuesday morning there was a wide band of red paint spray painted the full length of the street-side of my husband's white pickup. We have lived here for more than 30 years without incident.

"There are always 14 vehicles, at least three of which are commercial, parked on the street in front of the house which is situated on a slow curve, giving more room than other homes have for street parking. AND, there are two people who, in the morning, park their cars in front of that house - one person gets into one of the white commercial vans. The second person walks to a house two doors down the street and joins another person in a commercial vehicle at that house and they drive away. Of course, one person who drives the second van in front of my house lives in the 'illegal safe house.' I reported the first white commercial van to the president of the company of the business. One white 'signed' van was promptly replaced with two 'no sign' white commercial vans. How is that for cooperation?

"A few days ago, my daughter and I arrived home in one vehicle followed by her fiance in another vehicle to find no parking places in front of our house - on our side of the street! People were, of course, standing around talking in the yards of the house across the street and next door. Since there was a party next door, I asked if they knew who the cars belonged to. They moved one so we could park one of our vehicles on the street in front of our house!!! We pulled two vehicles as far as we could into the driveway so that my husband could get most of his truck into the drive when he arrived. I called him on his cell to let him know the situation and to ask that he not cause a scene. We do have to live here until we are ready to sell to some more of their kind.

"AND, before my neighbor sold, she took her son to kindergarten orientation in the neighborhood. The staff at the school HUNTED for an English welcome package. After some time, they thrust a Spanish package in his hands and told him to enjoy. My neighbor was able to get the county to agree to enroll her son in the school in the neighborhood they were moving into several miles away. She transported him daily for eight months - more than 20 miles.

"That is the joy of living around illegal immigrants. They come in and 'slumify' the neighborhood. As we drive into the neighborhood, daily, we see more junk added to the yards of our wonderful neighbors - welcomed by the government - (who I am sure helped them buy their house!!!!!)"

I don't think it is enough to fire the illegals. We need to pull the business license of companies that continue to hire them ( http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/mexico/tijuana/20061124-9999-2m24fence.html )
and shut them down.

God Bless America, God Save The Republic.

plucky-With all the hurricane damage in 2004, there has been a lot of reroofing, and remodeling being done. With all the construction, we have a lot of illegals in the area, working. Well, even though they don't live in the area, we also have an AF base close by. So we have adult entertainment not far away. This attracts unattatched males, legal and illegal. Last year there was a homicide not 4 blocks from my house, 4 illegal mexican males knifed another! The HS near us, had an illegal mexican get on campus and attack a girl in the restroom, thank G*D she got away from him and raised the alarm. They found him trying to sneak back to Mexico. We have a lot of mexicans driving, they're mostly gone because the jobs have been done, but they are horrible drivers, you lmost have to pull off the road to let them have an accident not involving you!
I live in a middle class neighborhood, that was built by engineers and others who work at NASA, so it's not a bad neighborhood. The vast majority of homes are owned, but as people get older they sell, and buyers get them to rent out because we are about 100 yds. from the beach. Prime area. So don't be so snide, the mexicans were only here for awhile, but while they were, they caused problems! Okay?
You are not all knowing and all wise, you're not G*D. So if you don't lknow, don't make assumptions!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

plucky- A little more info, when we lived in San Jose, CA, we went to look at renting an apartment, it ended up in a horrible part of town(PTL we went during the day) it was loaded with illegals, literally stuffed in the other apartments, we didn't even stop! So I'm not the isolated little housefrau you want me to be! I have seen with my own eyes, and heard first hand about the horrors of living in a neighborhood being infiltrated. The neighborhood we passed through in San Jose was a barrio in the fullest meaning of the word.
So if I'm describing in "gritty detail" don't even mistake it for a fantasy.

The fact is that the Republicans refused to take any coherent stance on Illegal Immigration. They had plenty of time to pass whatever law they wished, impliment it, and adjust it to reality. Had they wished. They didn't wish. Why? Because the thought of losing a single vote is anathema to the politician. Thus, Republicans deserted the ship when they thought it was safe to do so.

Now we will get the Democrats' take on this - as if we didn't already know what "Open Borders" means.

Wanna change things? Then hold the politicos' feet to the fire. Toss them in the primaries as punishment, if they abandon principles. That's where you make your statements, Folks. If you wait until the general elections, all you do is punish your neighbors.
