9/11 Tribute Planned
(This information stuck at the top for the summer. Scroll down for the latest postings by Always on Watch)
I found the following at GM Roper's blog and am shamelessly copying the information here:
"'September 11, 2006 will mark the 5-year anniversary of the attacks that killed 2,996 innocent people on American soil....Here is how to sign up:
"'A few months ago I started wondering what, if anything, I would write in my blog that day. A remembrance? A tribute? Anything I came up with seemed shallow, cliché, not enough.
"'I’d like 2,995 blogging volunteers to help me with a tribute to the victims of 9/11. If you’d like to participate, you’ll be assigned the name of someone who was murdered on September 11, 2001. Then on September 11, 2006 you’ll post your own tribute to that person. It can be anything you want it to be: a photo tribute, an essay, a remembrance, a poem…it’s up to you. Then link back to a page I will create which will give the names of all 2,996 victims and links to the blogs that will remember them that day.
"'But, and this is critical, I don’t want any of us to remember the murderers. Do not refer to the terrorists. Or their organization. Or their goals. Let them fade into nothing. Let them be forgotten. Remember those worth remembering.'"
"If you want to participate, signups are being accepted through comments on either of two blogs: D.C. Roe or 2996. You can also sign up by email to dcroe05-at-yahoo-dot-com. D.C. is making the assignments; although, if you have a name you'd really like to honor, it probably wouldn't hurt to request it. A list of names and participants assigned so far is available here."I'm going to participate and have requested my assignment.

ah yes I have seen this too AOW...beautiful idea eh?..thanks for spreadin it around.
Thanks, AOW for letting me know about this. Yes I will participate. And the image you have up is actually a screensaver/desktop program which I have had since 9/ll on all my computers. The sound is "God Bless America" sung by Celine Deon.
This project is well organized. Within a short time of emailing D.C. Roe, I had my assignment: Steven Lawrence Glick; the assignment came with a link to Mr. Glick's picture. I like that personal touch!
And with all this advance notice, I have time to think about exactly what I want to post.
Thanks for the heads-up, AoW!
Hey, AOW... I lost your email address. SORRY!
Anyhow, I got an email from someone whom I believe is brownie concerning the pederast comment I made.
Drop me an email at brooke_david@mac.com, and I will forward it to you!
Storm,
I had thought of that same question and went to the site to inquire. I see that you've already inquired there. We'll find out soon enough.
Eyes,
The movie is playing in my area; as I expected that cinema is not convenient for me. But I may be able to go anyway.
Debbie,
Screen saver? Drop me an email with instructions as to how I can get it.
WHT,
I'm pretty good at spreading news among those in my circle.
Brooke,
With this early notice, I have time to plan more. I hate having to do a rush-job on anything.
This is very cool, although I don't know how we're supposed to get the information needed on one of the people who were killed??? Anyway, I will sign up for this, and thanks!
If you get the information on the Screen Saver, please let me know. Thanks again, and blessings, AOW!
Gayle,
I got a link to some information in an email after I signed up. The information is minimal, but I might find time to do some research and find some additional data.
This a great idea , count me in.
Storm,
Yes! Pentagon victims are also included.
I now have the name of Edna L. Stephens, who perished at the Pentagon on 9/11. I will psst my tribute to her at Northern Virginiastan, which is specific to the D.C. area.
Oh! Troll and I both want to do it. We will sign up. I have to contact an Aunt in Maine who is related by marriage to a man who was on one of those planes that hit the Towers. Perhaps one of us could do a memorial for him. Whoever we are assigned it would be an honor to remember them.
This is just a wonderful idea.
there is a nyt edition that has several paragraphs on each victim. I signed up and found a trove of info there.
Dumb Ox,
Thank you for that courtesy. I might take you up on the offer--when I figure out how to do trackbacks. LOL.
Eyes,
I see the peace sign on the sign-up assignments page, but not on the other pages. Did I miss it?
Whatever. The idea of a big tribute with 2996 blogs is a good one.
I don't think I plan on another personal post like last year. I am going to talk about how my perspective on life changed that day.
Contrary to popular opinion time does not heal all wounds.
Yet I want you to remember the sanctimonious hostility of the Duck. I was there on that day unlike the Jersey Girls. I saw the look on the faces of men who could have been their husbands. They have no claim to be reresentative of the views of those of us who were there or even victims families. They have become addicted to the publicity and the media cult of proting far left victims like the Jersey Girls and Cindy " Commie Antisemite" Sheehan.
Thank you. It seems interesting and I plan on helping.
How soon we forget what really happened. Very good info AOW. Thanks.
I added the graphic to my sidebar with a link back to dcroe, so others can sign up. I'm leaving the graphic on top of all other graphics until after 9/11
Thanks so much for this, AOW. I wrote and made my request.
We are in
http://islamthreat.blogspot.com
We also put your blog on our blog roll. I will be waiting for your assignment and will be honored to do it. I also suggest that when the project is done we contribute theoutput to the Wikipedia project.
SD
PS: I hope that after reading The Islamic Threat Blog you will add it to your blogroll. We are in this together ;)
Thank you Storm, I will do that. :)
I just "plagiarized" this post and the one on the "Vigil" to send to my daughter. She will love them, I know.
Cubed,
"Plagiarize" away! No problems!
Wow! What a huge response you got, AOW! Nice work! :D
Thanks for the link AOW. It is a worthy project...
Helpful information. It was more than 2,996 deaths. There are wars and accidents throughout the world.
9-11 has changed the world, as people face unprecedented kind of dangers.
Good idea, I will distro this via my pages as well.

Janice,
Your comments are not welcome here. Warren has explained the reasoning at Long Range.
I have just signed up. I think of writing a post related to 9-11. There is so much news. I hope I can.
Shah,
How wonderful!
I signed up a coule of weeks ago. I have been doing a bit of research on my assigned victim and have already been touched by the process.
Keith Broomfield, Naturalized Jamaican immigrant, father of 10 children, had just gotten a great job in maintenance at one of the towers.
2996 has some cool buttons you can manipulate to include the name of your assigned victim and even a little bio.
I'm looking forward to reading other tributes as well as writing my own.
Cheers!
D. Daddio,
I'm always gratified to learn of another participant.
Each and every victim is important in his/her own right, but the story o Keith Broomfield is quite touching. I think I may have heard his story before, possibly on a television news-magazine.
Thank you for stopping by. I will visit your blog shortly.
What an excellent idea and project to undertake. It would be an honor to be involved, count me in!
Joe,
Glad to hear it! Spread the word to your friends, too.

I'm finally on board! 3 year old David Brandhorst...
Wordsmith,
Glad to hear that you're on board. This project still has plenty of victims to memorialize.
A three-year-old child? Yes, children were killed on 9/11. We don't hear much about that now, nearly five years later.
Holger Danske,
Adding this site to your blogroll is fine by me.
If you scroll down a few articles, you'll see that I've been promoting Obsession. Powerful film!
Holger Danske,
Because of the long link you left, my right sidebar is not aligned. I've deleted your comment, republish it, and fixed that link.
hi "always on watch team"!
i added you to my bloglist, hope thats ok for you.
just in case you dont know this one:
Obsession: What The War on Terror Is Really About

Look, watch, study, learn, and live - or die if you refuse to learn. This is a clash of civilizations, and we are in the middle of it.
People, this is some very scary stuff. If we don’t wake up and realize our very civilization and lives are at stake here, we are destined to vanish from the face of this planet. Don’t believe me?
Keep defending Hezbollah, Al Qaeda, and Hamas, and see how long you live if you refuse to stand up against the Islamofascists. This is the most serious threat of our modern times. If you don’t believe it, then you are just blind, deaf and dumb.
Thank you to Honest Reporting for making these videos.
Obsession. Radical Islam´s War Against The West
Hi AOW. Sorry about being absentee but I was on vacation. Will be by more often now.
Free Cyprus,
Welcome!
I saw something about that story on the front page of the New York Post when I stopped at the drug store just now.
I'll transfer the link you left to another article here at this blog. Thanks for leaving the info.
URGENT & O.T. - ahmadinijad has a blog:

Hello all AOW i finally get over here what do my eyes c this post.
i still shudder remembering 9-11.
i might not participate but i will support u all in this.
Phoenix Fire,
Fortunately, biographies of those individuals who perished on 9/11 are available at several sites. Getting the tributes done was quite easy. Still, the pieces took some time to get the tone to my satisfaction.
I'm on board. Just signed up the other day to honor a victim, and will do it with pride.
MZ,
Glad to hear it! I know that the project is running a bit short of the requested number of bloggers.
Estoy sonriendo.
Es un mono my guapo, verdad? Y tiene una apariencia de mucho color. Purpuro es mi color favorito.
Monos quieren comer por todo el dia y por toda la noche.
Peace-Man,
Good list there. Today we see most Islamic sects forbidding poetry and music. The Koran is supposed to be all-sufficient. Hence, the desire of "fundamentalist" sects to destroy what most others would consider works of art.
MTP was one brutal guy, and he serves as the model for all Muslims. Some, of course, don't take that model seriously. But a sufficient number of them do and work mayhem--sometimes on a greater scale than at other times.
Mi mono no quiere comer.
Damn, AOW, your Beanerese is better than mine. LOL.
Mr. Beamish,
Have I not mentioned to you that I'm a Spanish major? What a perfect Secretary of Homeland Education I'll be! ;)
AOW,
Can you teach people how to speak American?
Mr. Beamish,
I spend most of my time teaching English--American English, of course.
I've also taught ESL to a variety of native speakers of different languages.
As Sec. of Homeland Education, you'll be in charge of implementing American as the official language of the United States of America and annexed continents.
Absolutely! I know enough Spanish to tell Latinos to get with it and speak English. I happen to know just one word in Arabic--"the f-bomb," which I learned in college.
No more publishing ballots in any language other than American! The same goes for any government publications.
And no more of this nonsense on voice menus: "For English, press one." Every time I hear that phrase, my blood pressure goes up.
Non-English speakers will be told once AND ONLY ONCE about the requirement of American English as the official language. After that, the War Department can take over the necessary "persuasion."
A day or two ago, I saw an article about the post office in Maywood, CA flying the Mexican flag instead of the American flag. I haven't done any research to find out if that story is true or just a rumor. If true, that is a cause for military deployment in Maywood--or else for annexing Mexico.
AOW,
We're going to make the British speak American too.
