CAIR Accuses Michael Graham-Again
An August 9, 2005 article on CNSNews.com:
Attack on Pregnant Muslim Woman Should Be Treated as Hate Crime, Group SaysAssaults on indivduals are against the law, and those who live by the rule of civil law do not support such attacks. But CAIR may be something other than the civil-rights organization it purports to be. Will somebody please examine CAIR's officers to see what they stand for? According to an article by Daniel Pipes,
"(CNSNews.com) - An Islamic civil rights group is calling on law enforcement in Virginia to treat the assault of a pregnant Muslim woman Tuesday morning as a hate crime.
"According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a 23-year-old Muslim woman, who is 8 months pregnant and wears an Islamic head scarf, was attacked by three white men during a morning walk in Arlington, Va.
"'We believe these types of incidents are the direct result of the growing level of virulent anti-Muslim rhetoric Americans are exposed to on the Internet, in newspaper editorial pages and on radio talk shows,' said CAIR Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper, in a press release.
"'Our nation's political and religious leaders must begin to challenge Islamophobic hate-mongers,' added Hooper.
"The men, reportedly driving a pick-up truck, allegedly screamed anti-Muslim and racist slurs at the woman, with one of them shouting, '[various epithets].'
"According to CAIR, the men drove away and then returned as she continued her walk. One of them, wearing military-style clothing allegedly got out of the vehicle, and began shoving the women and preventing her from moving away.
"During the assault, one of the men allegedly shouted, "[various epithets]." The man was then called back to the truck by the others, according to CAIR.
"Hooper pointed to the recent suspension of Washington, D.C., radio talk show host Michael Graham for saying 'Islam is a terrorist organization' as an example of the 'anti-Muslim rhetoric' that has fueled incidents like the one in Virginia.
"Hooper also noted that an Illinois man was arrested last Friday for threatening to bomb CAIR's Capitol Hill headquarters."
"Ibrahim Hooper...told the Minneapolis Star Tribune on April 4, 1993: 'I wouldn't want to create the impression that I wouldn't like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future.'"
Mr. Pipes has also provided additional information about other individuals affililiated or formerly affiliated with CAIR:
"Randall Royer, CAIR's communications specialist and civil rights coordinator, was indicted on charges of conspiring to help Al-Qaeda and the Taliban to battle American troops in Afghanistan. He later pled guilty to lesser firearm-related charges and was sentenced to twenty years in prison.
"Ghassan Elashi, the founder of CAIR's Texas chapter, was convicted in July 2004 along with his four brothers of having illegally shipped computers from their Dallas-area business, InfoCom Corporation, to Libya and Syria, two designated state sponsors of terrorism. In April of 2005, Elashi and two brothers were also convicted of knowingly doing business with Mousa Abu Marzook, a senior Hamas leader and Specially Designated Terrorist. He continues to face charges that he provided more than $12.4 million to Hamas while he was running the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (HLF), America's largest Islamic charity.
"Bassem Khafagi, CAIR's community relations director, pleaded guilty in September 2003 to lying on his visa application and for passing bad checks for substantial amounts in early 2001, for which he was deported. Khafagi was also a founding member and president of the Islamic Assembly of North America (IANA), an organization under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for terrorism related activities.
"Rabih Haddad, a CAIR fundraiser, was arrested on terrorism-related charges and deported from the United States due to his subsequent work as executive director of the Global Relief Foundation, a charity he co-founded; in October 2002, GRF was designated by the U.S. Treasury Department for financing Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. According to a CAIR complaint, Homam Albaroudi, a member of CAIR's Michigan chapter and also a founding member and executive director of the IANA also founded the Free Rabih Haddad Committee."Siraj Wahhaj, a CAIR advisory board member, was named in 1995 by U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White as a possible unindicted co-conspirator in connection with the plot to blow up New York City landmarks led by the blind sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman.
"Ihsan Bagby, a future CAIR board member, stated in the late 1980s that Muslims' can never be full citizens of this country,' referring to the United States, 'because there is no way we can be fully committed to the institutions and ideologies of this country.'
"Omar Ahmad, CAIR's chairman, announced in July 1998 that 'Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.'"
Should an organization with such connections be crying "Foul"? Are any of the mainstream media willing to cry "Foul!" on CAIR?
Meanwhile, Michael Graham is not broadcasting from WMAL Radio, even though he was supposed to back on the air on Monday, August 8, 2005.

Hey, that was a great piece! I loved the way you showed CAIR to be full of criminals; they are definitely casting stones in a glass house!
I don`t know the details, but it seems to me that we have to take the woman`s word that she was accosted. Were there any witnesses? I am rather skeptical about such dubious claims of abuse without solid evidence to back it up-especially when it is coming from CAIR.
Great job! I`m going to link this up at Birdblog.
I didn't know all this AOW...goos stuff and will come back. I'm learning more and more every day about this religion of peace and all it's mouthpieces.
Still waiting for the ACLU to step in.. I mean, they are for the freedoms and rights of all right?
Anyway, AOW, I have to say that 3 white guys hitting up a Muslim woman does sound like it was racially motivated. But this has nothing to do with Graham or CAIR for that matter. It happens, and if CAIR really wants to throw down some blame... how about the suicide bombers? They are the ones instigating harsh feelings towards Muslims, not radio hosts.
This is where the BS factor comes in when they talk about "Moderate" Muslims. If they really want to change America's view of Islam here are some things they can do:
1.) Issue one (or more) Fatwa a week condemning terrorist activities.
2.) Bombard every Islamic site they can find with anti-terrorism and “religion of peace” statements
3.) Cut all financing and logistical support for every organization listed on “terrorism watch lists”.
4.) Stop sending their kids to militant training camps.
5.) Turn in people they know that are involved in any phase of potential terrorist activities.
6.) Begin sending books and scholastic materials that show Islam to be a peaceful religion to the Middle East so that their children can learn how loving a religion it can be. We don’t need it in our libraries… they do.
When this happens, then I will start believing there actually is a moderate Islam

AR2005080901366_pf.html :
"Possible Hate Crime--
" Arlington County police said yesterday that they are investigating a pregnant woman's report that she was attacked while on a morning walk because she is Muslim and African American, authorities said.
"The woman, whose name was not released because she is a witness [But I've seen her face on several local news-broadcasts], told police she was targeted about 7:30 by three white men in a green pickup who yelled racial and anti-Muslim slurs at her, said Matt Martin, a police spokesman. The truck reportedly circled the block and then returned, and one of the men allegedly exited and shoved her and continued to yell epithets while the others looked on, Martin said.
"''We take these claims very seriously,' Martin said of the alleged assault in the 800 block of South Walter Reed Drive. 'We don't tolerate those kinds of incidents.'
"The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, a national Islamic civil rights and advocacy group, called on authorities to treat the allegations as a hate crime. But Martin said that Virginia has no separate hate crime law and that the state's hate crime statute can be applied only to enhance the penalties of another felony or misdemeanor -- in this case, assault.
"Martin said the woman was unable to provide detailed information about the truck in which the assailants were riding. They were described only as white men, one of whom was dressed in military-style clothing, according to a statement released by CAIR."
Anything suspicious about her report?
Also, interested readers should have a look at CAIR's web site @
www.cair-net.org
CAIR is targeting newspapers as well as Michael Graham and Geoff Metcalfe (both of WMAL Radio)!
Why aren't we hearing about this in any of the media? Is everyone that afraid of CAIR? Does CAIR have that much power? Is the blogosphere next in CAIR's sights?
Mr. Beamish,
As usual, you are correct. Yes, CAIR's origins are Hamas!
Recently, radio talk-host Chris Core, reputed to be a conservative who recently did a great show exposing Herndon's problems with illegal immigrants, interviewed Ibrahim Hooper on WMAL Radio. I did not hear the broadcast, but a friend of mine (who doesn't get what's a stake with the WMAL story) related to me last night that Core "bowed down" to Hooper. Why didn't Mr. Core ask the right questions? Ignorance? Fear of CAIR? Pressure from ABC-Disney?
And just this past May, U.S. Senator John Warner (Liz Taylor's ex) attended a CAIR event, and Warner, too, cozied up to CAIR. Unbelievable!
I'm so sick of hearing the term "Islamophobia" that I could puke!
Gindy,
Hooper is a public-relations man. His smugness drives me crazy.
I believe that he IS indeed a liar. And what he's lying about is lulling America into a dangerous spot.
G,
I'm not holding my breath for the ACLU to step in on behalf of Graham or Metcalfe. I doubt that you are, either.
As far as I know, the woman's claims have not been substantiated. I'm keeping an eye on the local news to see what develops. On more than one occasion, reports of hate crimes have turned out to be unfounded, but CAIR has never, to my knowledge, ever published a retraction of any Muslim-bashing story presented on their web site.
Your six points are well taken! Thank you for your input. I, too, have been waiting for "moderate Muslims" to take a decisive stand. Hasn't happened--and the recent fatwah against terror is a fake, as has been exposed on numerous other sites.
We non-Muslims must do something to counter CAIR's insidiousness; the presence of CAIR amounts to a 5th column, as far as I'm concerned.
As soon as I do some fine-tuning (I've already started), with the help of some friends, I will be launching an educational web site, with suggestions for countering the whitewash of Islam; my suggestions are steps which individuals can easily take.
Toni,
Hooper is a liar and guilty of hyperbole much of the time. And the "attack" on this Arlington woman has no corroborating evidence--at least none that I've heard of. To me, the part of her story about a military uniform seems particularly odd. It's so hot here in the D.C. area that I can't imagine anyone suiting up in such a manner.
Who is going to hold Hooper/CAIR accountable? Even the right-wingers won't take him on. It's making me crazy.
Why isn't the DHS taking down CAIR?
Bonnie Blue,
Yes, it was the Washington Post, not the New York Post.
I can access the Washington Post articles because I'm registered at the site. Registration is free, I believe. But because some of my blog's readers don't register, I published the item in full, as you noticed.
Thank you for the link to Arlington Civil Rights Attorneys. I visited there and noticed the coverage you mentioned.
PS: My students are homeschoolers, middle-schoolers and high-schoolers. Some of them visit my site regularly, and so do their parents. I hope that some will also visit your blog.
And as one of those who dislikes her old hometown paper these days, I appreciate your reprinting those articles. :)
By the way, I believe Hooper mounted a pretty heavy campaign to try to block Daniel Pipes's appointment by Bush, which I believe also had to be a recess appointment. Hooper is dangerous. No doubt in my mind. Good on you for keeping a spot light on him and CAIR.
If the guys did do that to the woman, I in no way condone it. But yes, it does have some fishy stink on it.
Verbal Assaults hmm. Then muslims are far more likely to be the perpetrators then victims.
Anyone who doubts me should try talking to Muslims about the plight of Coptics in Egypt or Assyrian History in Union Square Park. Coptics have told me about being threatened. I have been personally threatened in Union Square for talking about those subjects. The massacres of Maronites by Palestinians preceeding Sabra and Shatilla is also a topic which will get threats.
Seems like I have heard some of those names before. I'm going to have to get the old video "Terrorist Among Us" out and watch it again. I have posted my Question Of The Week, I hope you will stop by to answer it.
God Bless America, God Save The Republic
Esther,
I clearly recall CAIR's objections to Daniel Pipes, who was accused by CAIR of being an Islamophobe. As you pointed out, Bush appointed Pipes anyway; and when that occurred, I breathed a sigh of relief. While I don't agree 100% with Pipes, he certainly understands the threat from Wahhabism. Also, he has called for the closing of the Islamic Saudi Academy in Alexandria, Virginia. The curriculum there promotes hatred of Israel; in fact, the world maps don't show the nation of Israel at all. Ibrahim Hooper claims that the school has removed all objectionable materials. But the fact remains that the school's funding is of Saudi origin.
Call me a cynic, but I don't trust what Hooper says.
Beak,
Thank you for the excellent information in your comment.
I'm sick and tired of hearing CAIR yapping about verbal assaults on Muslims.
Have you visited CAIR lately? They're also after newspapers, even the letters to the editors.
Anonymous,
First of all, Islam or Muslim is not a race any more than Christianity or Christian, or Fascism or Fascist, is.
Second, I've heard no more of the case of the Muslim woman in Arlington, so I cannot comment as to the veracity of her report. But people sometimes make false reports to the police. Assigning blame to Michael Graham for the actions of a truckload of harassers is a reach, and I think that CAIR jumped to a conclusion in order to promote their agenda. Omar Ahmad's agenda seems anti-American to me.
I have never claimed that all Muslims are suicide bombers nor that all Muslims hate America. I have, however, questioned the tacit support of Islamists on the part of a substantial portion of Muslims.
