It's horrible. I had it for a week. The doctor prescribed medication that caused constipation, which was even worse. I finally kicked it myself. I drank lots of green tea and only ate soda crackers.
I somewhat know what you're going through. Lucky for you though - my "gastroenteritis" turned out to be something called Dysentery. I caught it while visiting Karachi Pakistan. Imagine that. That experience was the worse pain EVER.
Juice can irritate, drink gatorade, it replaces the lost salts and trace elements you lose to sweating from fever and, how shall Isay this, digestive upsets? Applesauce, rice, bananas, dry toast, the ubiquitous BRAT's diet, gentle on the abused organs! And lots of rest or sleep!
Hope you start feeling better soon. Steve might be right but the last thing I want to do when I'm sick like that is to eat anything. I'm glad to see that you weren't eating tacos. I pretty much stay away from fast food even though I admittedly enjoy Big Macs.
tmw is right. If you're having diarrhea, you must replace the electrolytes with a Gatorade-like drink which is better than water. Also, binders like rice will *ahem* coalesce the stool into a more consistent consistency.

It not only bulks up the intestinal tract, it cleans out most of the bacteria that causes enteritis as well. Plenty of water is recommended.

This is one miserable virus, worse than the usual 24-hour bug.
I'll be doing a lot of sleeping. I'm weak, and my stomach is still iffy.
