A Day Without Immigrants

Poor things! The illegal invaders had a bit of a scare in Montgomery County, Maryland. From the April 30, 2006 Washington Post item "Montgomery Schools: Immigrant Students Reassured":
"The Montgomery County school system is urging students to go to school [May 1], disputing rumors that undocumented immigrants would be arrested if they do.

"In a news release, school officials acknowledged widespread rumors of arrests in conjunction with a business boycott to protest proposed legislation to tighten U.S. borders.

"Schools spokesman Brian Edwards said that several schools had received calls from parents. County police also released a statement dispelling rumors of mass raids against undocumented immigrants in the county."
Isn't it nice to know that Montgomery County Public Schools System and the Montgomery County Police Department have assured the illegal invaders that they will not be rounded up? Your tax dollar at work!

The following is an email I received this morning:
"Please don't forget that today, Monday, May 1st, is the day the illegal members of our country and those who symphasize with them have declared to be a national day of 'No Spending Whatsoever.' It's been all over the news and in the papers. The intent is to show how much power they have in their ability to cripple our nation's economy for a day in order to influence immigration legislation. As American citizens who want some constraints and controls, and who do not wish to give these people the power to ruin our economy on Monday, please go out for breakfast, go out for lunch, go out for dinner. Take in a movie. Buy a new dress and shoes. Buy a new car. If you have been planning to buy a tv, or any large purchase, do it on Monday. Show them that they cannot cripple us, not even for a day. Please drown out the statement they are trying to make with a statement of our own. This is our country, and you don't run it. Your boycott will not be noticed. We will show how little power you actually have because your boycott will not work. You will not cripple our economy - not even for one day and especially not on Monday, May 1st, 2006."
So which will it be today — a victory for the rule of law or a victory on the part of illegal invaders? Because that's what "undocumented workers" are — illegal invaders!

Note: Did you notice all the American flags in the previous demonstration? According to the Austin-American Statesman, after the demonstration last month in Austin, Texas, those American flags were tossed into the trash. Get the message?

When I get out and about later today, I'm going to see what I notice on my limited rounds on the streets of Northern Virginia.

A song by a certain "namesake"...

A SONG NOW MUCH IN VOGUE IN NORTH AMERICA 1768 (by John Dickinson, author "The Farmer's Letters")

Come join band in hand, brave Americans all,
And rouse your bold hearts at fair Liberty's call;
No tyrannous acts, shall suppress your just claim,
Or stain with dishonor America's name.

In freedom we're born, and in freedom we'll live;
Our purses are ready,
Steady, Friends, steady,
Not as slaves, but as freemen our money we'll give.

Our worthy forefathers - let's give them a cheer -
To climates unknown did courageously steer;
Thro' oceans to deserts, for freedom they came,
And, dying, bequeath'd us their freedom and fame.

Their generous bosoms all dangers despis'd,
So highly, so wisely, their birthrights they priz'd;
We'll keep what they gave, we will piously keep,
Nor frustrate their toils on the land or the deep.

The Tree, their own hands had to Liberty rear'd,
They lived to behold growing strong and rever'd;
With transport then cried, - " Now our wishes we gain,
For our children shall gather the fruits of our pain."

How sweet are the labors that freemen endure,
That they shall enjoy all the profit, secure, -
No more such sweet labors Americans know,
If Britons shall reap what Americans sow,

Swarms of placemen and pensioners' soon will appear,
Like locusts deforming the charms of the year:
Suns vainly will rise, showers vainly descend,
If we are to drudge for what others shall spend.

Then join hand in hand brave Americans all,
By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall;
In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed,
For Heaven approves of each generous deed.

All ages shall speak with amaze and applause,
Of the courage we'll show in support of our laws;
To die we can bear, - but to serve we disdain,
For shame is to freemen more dreadful than pain.

This bumper I crown for our sovereign's health,
And this for Britannia's glory and wealth;
That wealth, and that glory immortal may be,
If she is but just, and we are but free.
In freedom we're born, &c.

In 1768, those looking for a handout were around? I guess human nature never changes.

I'm definitely drudging for what others spend. My 2005 tax return was cause for mourning.

I wish that I'd postponed grocery shopping until today, but I didn't think of it.

However, my husband is buying "underdrive/overdrive pulleys" for the Mustang. Does that count? We ordered the pulleys last week, and they should be in today. No immigrants work at that garage, so I'm sure that place is open today.

Tiberge, a fellow school teacher, posted the following comment at our site, n.d., and given our mutual interests in these things I bring it here directly.

@ charles henry et al...

A fine post. I may borrow it for Galliawatch. The comments are fascinating too. You should NOT bat an eyelash at the reality of indoctrination in schools. In the United States it started forty years ago, first in the inner cities, then it spread like cancer to the rest of the country. I cannot say what is happening in every school, but I am sure that Afro-Islamic-Hispanic-Feminist-Homosexual power groups are busy at work preventing any semblance of real education.

In America it all started with the civil rights movement of the sixties. At that point in time the American left completely sold its soul to the notions of minority rights, affirmative action, equality of all cultures, multi-culti hogwash, black-is-beautiful-white-is-ugly mantras, etc... Our schools never got back on track. Most grades are not only inflated, they are just handed out as a matter of course, as you hand out candy. So are scholarships.

Now with Islam on the scene, our left-wing anti-education system has new grist for its mill. I taught from 1965-1995. The number of "Muslim" kids increased greatly over time (I'm speaking of black Muslims). Most boys were named Rachid, Jamal or Mohammed. Some girls came to class totally draped in black.

There were, from the start, strong anti-Semitic feelings among the blacks. These feelings waxed and waned according to the circumstances. The most disturbing thing was the stubborn left-wing doctrines of the Jewish teachers, who pandered grossly to those who would destroy them. This is an on-going problem of great concern to many of us who are friends to the Jews and to Israel. How can we help them, if they insist on being multi-culti, open-borders, socialists?

Finally, regarding Larousse. I have heard that Larousse was anti-Semitic in the past. I have no proof whatsoever. I only heard that from an acquaintance. If it's true, it's not surprising that they would be soft on Islam today. However, the problem is more than Larousse. And you are quite right to be concerned about your school's textbooks. (I remember when a math text was banned for having cute illustrations of elephants wearing tutus - feminists were insulted!)

Muslims are a minor threat, in my opinion. Our own are the problem. Our own, those who are the problem, are few and far between; it's our own who are afraid to stand up to the wreckers and thought police who are the problem. There will always be lunatics and idiots; the question is how much longer normal people will keep them in power and how much worse our lands will become before normal people react normally, which might well be extremely in the event we don't ease the pressure building.

If we don't act responsibly to contain our lunatic ideologues and revise our psychotic societies now, the time will come when there's no stopping the counter-movement of equal or greater psychosis. We're looking at a civil war soon if we don't act responsibly now.

"...they came to become Americans, not for the Reconquista."

Such an important point.

The border/illegal thing takes on a whole new dimension when you consider the "reconquista" goal (even though we bought and paid for the lands they claim, and it was a princely sum, too. I KNOW I have that receipt around here some place!) of the illegals.

It gets even more serious when you take into account the alliances being formed between Iran and Castro's Cuba, Chavez' Venezuela, and now Bolivia.

Add to that the increasingly intense activity of Hezbollah, Iran's field flunky, in the Tri-Border area of South America (Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay), and the fact that over 400 "OTM's" from Muslim countries have been detained (how many got across who weren't detained?), and it becomes quite apparent that we don't have two separate problems, but just two aspects of the same problem.

With all the collectivists, from Islam to the communists and everything in between, there is a substantial world-wide attack on the U.S., and we had better SECURE THE BORDERS!

SIGH.

Well, keep on shoppin', and nag your reps and senators. This conflict is more important than it is being reported in the MSM.

And yes, the ones I could see were not real confrontatioal, but they did have some face time with a few Americans who opposed the demands! Lots of restaraunts and stores along the march route were blocked, many lost a lot of money, others in office buildings couldn't get out! About 20,000 marched in Orlando with a big rally at the home of the Majic basketball team. Most talked about how they were "so scared" to go outside thier doors, spit, sputter, hack, cough, gag! If you're so scared-go home! I don't know about Marxism, the station didn't show any. Yes, you are correct. Latin America is very fond of Marxism, or any other utopianism. Therefore, most governments in Latin America are constantly aroil, and dictatorships abound.

Leftist groups organized the demonstrations. These "events" are not spontaneous.

BTW, Islam is making inroads in Latin America too, as you probably know. For example, Hezbollah has a strong presence in the Tri-Border area (Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay), and mosques are popping up in the jungles. Conversion to Islam is also occurring, of course--and in Mexico.

The demonstration in D.C. was quite small--only a few thousand showed up. This, despite the fact that every housing-construction site stands idle and that most Latino-owned businesses were closed for the event (Signs so posted). Most businesses, however, were open, and traffic was light. Maybe lots of gas got saved?

In Florida and in Los Angeles, a sea of immigrants turned out. But I don't think the humbers were as large as last month's.

Unfortunately, AoW, the best time to have acted was before the church had gone to sleep and snored through the '60s and '70s! We, as Christians gave up the fight, fought the wrong fight, or were infighting while America slipped out of our fingers! We allowed liars, thieves and traitors into Congress and the WH. Now we are reaping the harvest of our folly! Can we beat back the barbarians in the gate? Perhaps, but it will be a bloody and deadly serious fight. Without G*D we can't do it, will HE help us? Are we so far gone that HE can only judge? I don't know, but I fear. And so many are still sleeping, dreaming, snoring that the truth can be hard to hear. We are not in a good place, but, with G*D all things are possible!

Hi there!

I'm not sure about mass hysteria, but disorder is a strong possibility. The fact that certain prominent Latino organizations are calling for Reconquista (Never mind the Treaty of Hidalgo--remember that one?) and the killing of gringos. "This Land Is My Land" has come to mean "We're Going To Take Over This Land Because We Deserve It."

In the meantime, the cheap labor is not so cheap, if one considers the impact on our healthcare and educational systems, just to mention two specifics. Besides that, our republic is dangerously flirting with the idea that certain laws don't apply to particular people.

Thanks for stopping by, Tech Guy.

Duck,
The following information is from the LA Times, but I don't have the link (Oh, well):

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.

2. Over 2/3's of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers.

I might add that those illegals receiving medical care at taxpayer-supported care facilites walk debt free. For example, my sister-in-law, who had a high risk pregnany, had to declare bankruptcy because of the cost of care, despite having had medical insurance--the costs were that high.

Visit the ER and find out what it's like. Do a bit of investigation on your own; the problem is a lot bigger than what's going on in CA and is coming to a location near you, sooner than you think.

I submit that the stats you're looking for have not been released because Americans would be outraged if they knew the scam which is being perpetrated on those who are paying their own way.

If I find some exact figures with links, I'll let you know.

The problem is not limited to CA, of course. NJ has similar issues: those without insurance, a huge portion of which are illegal and uninsured immigrants, don't pay the bills.

Of course health insurance doesn't make an individual healthier. But idiopathic illnesses and diseases occur. Get a serious illness, such as a brain tumor, and find out what the surgery bill amounts to.

Go without medical insurance; go bankrupt if the catastropic occurs, either idiopathically or as the result of a serious car accdent.

Now, I'm not saying that there is not a rake-off on the part of the administrators of health-insurance programs. But socialized medicine is just as bad, or worse.

I'm guessing that you're counting on staying healthy until you are old enough to be covered by Medicare. Good luck! (no sarcasm, explicit or implied)

Another topic here...The Founders did not advocate the two-party system. What we have today in the two-party system serves the desires of corrupt politicians, the size of which seems to be growing.

At 5/04/2006 6:20 PM, Blogger Always On Watch said...

Here are some stats:

This study is one of the first to estimate the total impact of illegal immigration on the federal budget. Most previous studies have focused on the state and local level and have examined only costs or tax payments, but not both. Based on Census Bureau data, this study finds that, when all taxes paid (direct and indirect) and all costs are considered, illegal households created a net fiscal deficit at the federal level of more than $10 billion in 2002....

Households headed by illegal aliens imposed more than $26.3 billion in costs on the federal government in 2002 and paid only $16 billion in taxes, creating a net fiscal deficit of almost $10.4 billion, or $2,700 per illegal household.

Among the largest costs are Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion)...

The above figures do not take into account the increases in healthcare premiums, and at least some of that increase is very likely related to the numbers of uninsured illegals receiving "free" medical care.

Both... at OUR expense. Keep voting two-party and this problem is permanent. Your votes are wasted on two parties that are nearly identical.

We're being played for rubes, and it's working. Bend over and vote party - here comes another election.

We have a similar problem this side of the Atlantic, too. Somebody wants all these immigrants: Big business for cheap labour; Blair to add to his voter base.

But Blair has had that smile wiped off his face for once. The results in the local elections have given him something to chew over!

The local election here in Herndon resulted in the open-borders politicians being tossed out of office. Yee-haw!

But, guess what? The media barely covered the victory of the secure-borders fellows. The msm may ignore the undercurrent, but the resentment has bubbled up--and that resentment came to the polling booths last Tuesday.

Politicians are all about expanding their voter base, never mind the damage to the country.

Criticizing the Founding Fathers? Hardly, this was a pattern that became entrenched far too early, but had been warned against by the Founders themselves.

Rather I criticize the idea of what I call "two party thinking". There are always more than two sides to any story or issue and the divisiveness of the current political system simply keeps them voted in, like that idiot Kennedy (Ted), and the country divided when people have far better ideas for America but are silenced by a lack of representation.
