A Seasonal Graphic

Click on the image for a larger view.

And just in time for Halloween, HERE is a story about Houdini, who died on October 31, 1926. It seems there was more to Houdini than met the eye:
"...A new biography of the legendary performer suggests that Houdini worked as a spy for Scotland Yard, monitored Russian anarchists and chased counterfeiters for the U.S. Secret Service — all before he was possibly murdered...."

TMW,
I was looking for a graphic with something about "leftist utopians," but I didn't find one. Unfortunately, I'm graphically challenged, so I couldn't create my own graphic.

What an absolutely fascinating character!! I watched the Tony Curtis movie, but never had a clue he was this deep. Wow! Chasing down Commie Anarchists, counterfeiters and exposing "spiritual channelers" are all great services to mankind. Good for Harry Houdini, he was real mensch!

Same here, I knew little about Houdini.

That Halloween graphic would scare away more liberals than a real live demon or werewolf, LOL.

I think most people still believe that he died failing to escape from the "water torture chamber" during one of his acts.

i've always found the "star of david" to be the most repulsive item to a leftist - honestly, if you want to have a war of words put one on and you soon find out who's who! we wear the buttons and people are either genuinely interested or start calling us all sorts of names - it ain't purty.

Without taking time to look it up, I believe that Houdini was from Hungary and that his real name was Erich Weiss.

For a time in my life, I was fascinated by Houdini. Part of that fascination stems from the Tony Curtis/Janet Leigh film.

I dig the graphic. Don't know much about Houdini to comment about it.

Thanks to that dramatic scene in the Tony Curtis movie.

Houdini also debunked many spiritual mediums and thus came into conflict with Arthur Conan Doyle.

A legend, of which I don't know the veracity: For years on Halloween, Houdini's widow held seances trying to reach her husband on the other side--no success.

My father, as a teenager, actually saw Houdini perform in either D.C. or Baltimore. Apparently Houdini's act was a huge draw and very spectacular.

Michael,
The book is getting a lot of promo. Before long, it should be in the public library. Perhaps the book already in on the library shelves. I'll check in a minute.

The new book about Houdini, The Secret Life of Houdini is on order at the Fairfax County Public Library. I just placed my hold on it.

Hmmm. I don't suppose Houdini got reincarnated as beakerkin, do you?

Great graphic! ANY of those things are sure to scare the pee out of a liberal!

I read somewhere that Houdini was so determined to escape that he once even tore up his own arms to do so, and in front of a live audience!

Escape a trap, I mean! ;)

Brooke,
I think that I first saw the graphic at Mike's America. Too funny and a great satire, huh?

Farmer,
Houdini reincarnated as Beakerkin? Well, maybe. But Beakerambo still needs to be liberated! Maybe Beakerambo can study up on some of Houdini's techniques.

At 10/30/2006 2:42 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

...perhaps then he wouldn't need so much liberating! He could escape without having to be rescued by the Beamish Brigade.

At 10/30/2006 3:11 PM, Blogger American Crusader said...

I never saw the movie AOW..but because of it, that's how I always believed Houdini had died until I was probably in my twenties. I had a friend in college who was an expert on his life.
For some people, he seems to be much more than a magician/escape artist. It's almost as if he is attributed to being a master of black arts.

We didn't have a single trick-or-treater last night. The chocolate is MINE!

We had only one, the teen boy from down the street, but he wasn't actually trick or treating us, he just had a really bizarre costume and wanted to say HI! He was with a, dare I say it, a girlfriend. So he got a hug, in spite of his costume!
Good morning, G*D bless and Maranatha!

TMW,

What was it?

Actually, I'm glad that we didn't have any trick-or-treaters--besides getting to eat the chocolate, I mean. Their absence allowed for me to deliver my car to the car dealership for what looks like a major and expensive repair.

I don't live to leave the house untended on Halloween because of pranksters. However, in truth, we don't get much from pranksters these days.

Well, I have to say first, this boy is very much a boy! He was at a friend's house and saw a pair of little girl's fairy wings in the closet. Then somewhere he found a pink tutu. And a fuzzy lime green hat! So he shows up in pink wings and tutu, and fuzzy green head! He's 6'1" and broad shouldered, skinny though. It was quite a sight! His mom didn't even want him to leave the house, but he wanted to come show us what an idjit he looked like! My daughter was yelling out the door that we don't celebrate holoween, until he said who it was, we just laughed!

TMW,
He was enjoying the fun of Halloween.

I understand why some Christians don't celebrate Halloween, but I admit that I enjoy the dress-in-costumes aspect. Nothing wrong with having fun! Your visitor sounds hilarious.

Yesterday, at the vet's office, the receptionist was dresses as a pirate--complete with eyebrow piercings and socks with skulls on them. Quite a get-up!

I was at the dentist's office on St. Patty's Day, 2 ladies from another office made the rounds to every dentist and left Irish Soda Bread, they were wearing leprachaun outfits. They do that for every holiday!
